It’s as if being on reddit for a while has made them jaded and shortened their attention span. Was this on logged-in users? I know for me the quality/interest of links tends to fall off pretty quickly - I want more the top links from each subreddit than a lot of links (including the mediocre and terrible) from a few subreddits. Experienced Redditors have learned to rapidly parse for information that is relevant to them. The popular link content being focused on in this instance is image data (likely memes). New users have not adapted this skill for themselves (yet). Its not an attention span or focus issue. Notice how the heat sensor focuses on intently on imgur side links in particular. This is pretty normal behavior when it comes to entertainment. A vet television watcher will rapidly scroll through a large variety of channels in between commercials for comparison.
